The UAE’s Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP) has announced the extension of the country’s visa amnesty programme for two additional months. Originally scheduled to end on October 31, 2024, the new deadline for residents to regularize their visa status is now set for December 31, 2024.

The amnesty programme, which commenced on September 1, has already helped thousands of residents resolve their visa status issues. As part of the initiative, the government has waived millions of dirhams in fines for individuals who have overstayed their visas, providing a significant opportunity for violators to rectify their situations.

Maj-Gen Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of ICP, explained that the extension aligns with the UAE’s 53rd Union Day celebrations and reflects the country’s humanitarian and civilised values. Al Khaili emphasized that this extension represents a final chance for violators to settle their residency status, with the added benefit of being exempt from fines and avoiding a re-entry ban.

The UAE government’s lenient measures are designed to help individuals overcome challenges, protect their families, and ensure that everyone is able to obtain their full rights. The amnesty programme is a testament to the country’s commitment to offering violators a path toward resolution.

A significant number of violators have already taken advantage of the scheme, with many attending ICP centres to rectify their status. However, Al Khaili cautioned that after the extension, fines will be reinstated for those who continue to violate residency rules, and inspection campaigns will be intensified. Individuals who do not comply may face deportation, with some added to the UAE’s no-entry list.

This year’s amnesty programme marks the fourth initiative since 2007. In 2018, the UAE government extended the previous amnesty programme by two months, allowing more violators to resolve their status or leave the country without penalties.

For those wishing to take advantage of the extended amnesty period, applications can be submitted at the Status Regularization Camp, as well as the main Branch of Falak Tayyeb Platinum at Shiekh Zayed.

This extension provides a final opportunity for violators to regularize their status, benefiting from the UAE’s compassionate and progressive approach to residency and immigration matters.
